Mental Health Apps: Meditation & Relaxation

In part 2 I cover one of my favourite subjects, meditation apps. Meditation has been proven to help relieve anxiety and stress, and I’m personally a sucker for guided meditations. I have a hard time turning my brain off so listening to someone else guide me is so far the best option for me. I try to meditate at least once a day and I find that it really makes a difference for my well-being. Here I bring up 7 meditation and relaxation apps that might make a difference in your life!

Calm – Meditate, Sleep, Relax

A very popular mindfulness and meditation app. It has a lot of material and is suitable for both beginners and more advanced meditators. The app has guided meditations that are 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 minutes long, so you can choose after how much time you have at hand. It has meditations for several subjects, such as soothing anxiety, self-esteem, gratitude etc. It also has other features like 7 or 21 day programs, and you can track your progress in the app. Won app of the year 2017 on apple.

Headspace: Meditation & Mindfulness

Also a popular app that is a favourite with several of my friends. You might have seen commercials for it if you are already familiar with guided meditations. This app will teach you how to meditate and live mindfully. It suits beginners well, and Andy Puddicombe, co-founder of Headspace and a former monk, will guide you with his soothing voice. The app has different meditation packs that cover different subjects and emotions, targeting such things as happiness, sports and focus. The app also has guided exercises for kids and you can track your progress and share it with others

Simple Habit – Meditation

An award-winning app good for busy people that aim to reduce stress, improve focus and help you relax and sleep better. You can track your daily streaks and it has features that remind you to meditate. They update new topics weekly, has over 50 free sessions and a premium library of over 1000 meditations.

Stop, Breathe & Think: Meditate

Developer: Stop, Breathe & Think

A meditation app that allows you to check in with your emotions, as the app has a tracker for your emotions before and after your meditation. You can track your daily streaks and the app has stickers to reward you for your progress. It has over 30 free activities and 80 premium activities. The app has yoga and acupressure videos as well as guided meditations. It has a customizable timer and you can share your activities with your friends.

Sleepo: Relaxing sounds, sleep

An app for sleep and relaxation. The app has 32 sounds devided into four groups: rain sounds, nature sounds, city sounds and meditation sounds. You can set a timer to automatically stop the application and the app does not require an internet connection, so you can easily use it anywhere. The app also works perfectly well for meditation and contains the three most popular kinds of white noise: white noise, pink noise and brown noise.

Tide: Stay focused, be peaceful

Tide is firstly produced as a focus timer but works perfectly well for mindfulness too. Their timer is based on the pomodoro technique (a time management method using intervals) and allows you to customize the length of your breaks and focus time. It has nature sounds, white noise and a fusion function using white noise and music simultaneously. It has a minimalist design that I find very pretty and also has a daily picture. If you want, Tide can also write and enter your data into your Apple Health app

A meditation apps with several different programs. They have a 7 days program for beginners as well as 7 day programs for focus, stress relief, better sleep, self esteem and happiness. The app has sessions of differing length depending on what you want at the moment and  a good design.
