Sex and technology: from virtual relationships to pornography consumption

sex technology

Technology has revolutionized communication and relationships between people, the way we look at the world around us and, of course, it is changing the way we practice and consume sex. Today, virtual relationships, dating applications, pornography and 360º virtual sex are just one click away. The same click that makes the world more superficial and somewhat dehumanized.

Flirting apps such as Tinder or Happn, have changed the way you look for a partner or just meet people to have sex and enjoy a moment together. Millions of people are classified daily with ‘swipes’ or ‘crushes’ in a superficial context in which the images and profiles elaborated by the users prevail. This is the evolution of the classic marriage bureau to find a partner.

Real Doll, one of the most important manufacturers of sex dolls, said they are working on the male version. It will have AI and a bionic penis, and if everything goes as expected, it will be on sale before 2019. Like so many other things, there will come a time when this will be considered normal and normalized within society. Currently there are companies in Spain that rent sex dolls. Some experts believe that it could be a problem that human beings no longer bother having sex with other human beings. This type of product is the evolution of blow-up dolls (mainly for men).

According to the latest annual statistics of a well-known web of adult films in streaming and free, an average of 81 million people a day have been connected to it, with a total of 24,700 million searches made (800 searches per second). Of the more than 4 million videos that users and partners have uploaded to the page, 810,000 videos were included in category ‘amateur’. In total, about 595,500 hours of pornography (equivalent of 68 years). Data transfer was 3,732 Petabytes (118 GB per second).

26% of the visitors were women. The most searched topic by users during the past year was ‘lesbian sex’ and searches related to ‘porn for women‘ increased by 359% (I wonder if they have found what they were looking for). Other curious facts are: 67% of visits were made through mobile phones. The figures speak for themselves. Who remembers the porn local movie theaters?.

Internet and new technologies together with the lack of parental control, has made it possible for minors to voluntarily or accidentally access these contents. Like it or not, pornography has already become the sex educator of adolescents. Like so many other things, there will come a time when this will be normal and normalized. Maybe that moment has come. Someone should explain the differences between reality and fiction behind the screen: more boys than girls want to copy what they see in porn and some girls said that they felt the need to behave like a porn star to please the boys .

What is the main role of women in the videos that users upload to this type of website? Has anyone stopped to read the comments left by users about the women that appear in the videos?

Sex triumphs, and industry knows it. The rest does not matter.

I do not want to express that technology is the origin of all current ills, on the contrary, it makes it possible for everything to happen faster (fortunately in many cases), that everything is available to more people … but it depends on us to evolve or not with it.

I would need millions of words to analyze (without going too deep) all this human complexity …
